The lightweight crew team reclaimed the Dodge Cup, which was held previously by Columbia, by defeating the Lions and the Penn Quakers on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. The Elis won three of four races in the regatta, with only the Novices not taking first.
In the Varsity race, the Bulldogs came in first with a time of 6:06.2, defeating Columbia (6:09.4) and Penn (6:10.6.) The Elis also sat atop the standings in the second Varsity race, handily defeating second-place Penn by nearly 10 seconds. Yale's time was 6:08.5, while Penn came in at 6:17.9 and Columbia finished in 6:21.8
The Elis' only non-first place race was in the Novice division, where Penn earned the top spot with a time of 6:09.4 and Yale came in second in 6:15.5. Columbia rowed to third place with a time of 6:30.6.
In the second frosh fours, the Elis won their third of four races by over 40 seconds, rowing to a 7:21 time that was well ahead of Columbia's 8:03.6.
The races were sailed in moderate chop, with building headwinds from 10-15 knots and an above normal tail current.
Yale will host a doubleheader including races against Dartmouth, Rutgers, and Cornell next Saturday in Derby.
