Holbrook, Falcone Earn Academic Awards
Jonathan Holbrook (Dunkirk, Md.) and Johnathan Falcone (Flemington, N.J.) were named to the Capital One Academic All-District men's at-large teams today and have earned a spot on the national ballot (May 24 voting).

Fencing Holds Annual Banquet, Elects Captains
At the Yale fencing teams’ annual end of year banquet on Apr. 23, a number of fencers were celebrated for their efforts this past season and the new captains for next season were announced. Junior Shiv Kachru will captain the men’s team while sophomore Robyn Shaffer will lead the women’s team.

Ivy League Releases 2011 Winter Academic All-Ivy Recipients
The Ivy League has released its list of student-athletes selected for 2011 All-Ivy Academic honors in winter sports. The 80 men and women, including 10 from Yale, were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages.

Botwinick in Sixth Place After Day One
At the conclusion of Day One of the NCAA Fencing National Championships, senior Nat Botwinick is in sixth place among all foilists. He has amassed nine victories and a .643 winning percentage. Freshman Peter Cohen is in eighth place among all epeeists, with eight wins and a 0.571 winning percentage. Finally, junior Shiv Kachru is 22nd among all foilists, with three wins. Notre Dame is leading all schools with 61 overall team points.

Yale Finishes 11th at NCAAs
The NCAA Men's Fencing Championship concluded Friday, with freshman Peter Cohen posting Yale's best finish. Cohen tied for third in the epee competition, falling to eventual champion Marat Israelian in the seminfinals 15-4. Cohen earned 15 points for Yale, and the Bulldogs finished 11th as a team with 37 points. Notre Dame won with 90.

Fencers Head to National Championships
Three fencers from the Yale men's fencing team will be participating in the NCAA National Championships this week. Nathaniel Botwinick and Shiv Kachru will be competing in the foil portion of the tournament, whereas Peter Cohen will be competing in epee. The championships will be held at the French Field House and St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio, Mar. 24-27.

Kachru's Second-Place Finish Highlights NCAA Regional Performance
Junior Shiv Kachru's second-place finish in foil competition highlighted the Yale men's fencing team's day at NCAA Northeast Regional competition Sunday at Vassar. The Bulldogs also got a fifth-place finish from senior Nathaniel Botwinick in foil, and a 10th-place finish from freshman Peter Cohen in epee, and all three of those fencers qualified for the NCAA tournament.

Bulldogs Get Ready for NCAA Regionals
Having finished up its dual-meet regular season by winning the inaugural United States Collegiate Squad Championships, the Yale men’s fencing team is now getting ready for the NCAA National Championships. The National Championship is an individual tournament which will eventually name one champion for each weapon. The journey beings on Sunday with NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, hosted by Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. This weekend’s results, in conjunction with overall season results, will determine the qualifiers for the National Championships, which will be held at Ohio State University in two weeks.

Yale Wins Inaugural US Collegiate Squad Championships
The Yale men's fencing team earned a pair of silver medals at the United States Collegiate Squad Championships, held Sunday at NYU. Top three performances by all three Bulldog weapons squads gave Yale a total of 26 overall points and a share of the inaugural US Collegiate Squad Championship. UPenn also compiled 26 points to tie the Elis for first place.

The Yale men’s fencing team is preparing to participate in the first ever US Squad Championships this Sunday, February 27. The tournament will be hosted by NYU and will feature the top 24 fencing programs in the country.

Saunders Named National Fencer of the Week
Based on his outstanding performance at the Ivy League Championships this past weekend, Yale freshman Cornelius Saunders has been named CollegeFencing360's National Fencer of the Week. Columbia's Eliza Stone received the same honor on the women's side. Saunders was also named College Fencing Rookie of the Week by CollegeFencing360.

Yale 2-0 After First Day of Ivy Championships
The Yale men's fencing team finished with a 2-0 record after the first day of fencing in the Ivy League Championship tournament. The two-day round robin competition is hosted by Princeton and determines the winner of the Ivy League. Yale defeated Columbia 19-8 and Brown 19-8. The Bulldogs are currently tied for first place with Harvard, as both teams have perfect 2-0 records. Yale is scheduled to fence Harvard, Penn and Princeton tomorrow.

Bid for Ivy Title Comes Up Just Short
The Yale men's fencing team lost a heart-breaker to Harvard Sunday afternoon, 14-13, in a match that decided the Ivy League Championship. The Bulldogs and the Crimson both entered the match with perfect records for the weekend, as Yale had beaten Columbia and Brown on Saturday, then defeated Penn and Princeton on Sunday.

The Yale men’s fencing team will take part in the Ivy League Championship competition this weekend. The tournament will be hosted by Princeton and will be spread out over the course of Saturday Feb. 12 and Sunday Feb. 13. The Bulldogs will look to build on their regular season success and try to bring home the title.

Yale Routs Vassar
The Yale men’s fencing team hosted Vassar for a dual-meet on Monday night. Before a crowd of cheering fans in the seventh floor fencing salon Payne Whitney Gymnasium, the Bulldogs defeated Vassar by a final score of 19-8. The victory puts the Elis back on the winning track in their final meet before the Ivy Championships.

Bulldogs Lose Tough One to Sacred Heart
The Yale men’s fencing team hosted Sacred Heart for a dual-meet at the Payne Whitney Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 29. Despite having the support of the home crowd, the Bulldogs weren’t able to defeat the Pioneers, who snuck by the Elis for the 14-13 victory. Drew University was originally scheduled to participate in the Triangular meet, but eventually withdrew because of inclement weather.

The Yale men’s fencing team is gearing up for two dual-meets this weekend against Sacred Heart and Drew University. The Bulldogs will play hosts to Sacred Heart at 1 p.m. and Drew University at 3 p.m. The meet will take place in the seventh floor fencing salon in the Payne Whitney Gymnasium.

Yale Wins Three of Five at NYU
The Yale men’s fencing team competed in the NYU Invitational tournament today, and finished with an overall record of 3-2. The Bulldogs exactly matched their record from last year’s tournament, once again defeating Stevens Tech, Wayne State and NYU, while losing to Notre Dame and Ohio State. Yale looked convincing in its wins and fenced closely with a formidable team in Ohio State, before eventually losing by a final score of 12-15.

Bulldogs Get Ready for NYU Invitational
On Saturday, Jan. 22, the Yale men’s fencing team will once again participate in the NYU Invitational tournament. This will be the Bulldogs’ second team competition of the season and their first meet since returning from winter break. The tournament is hosted by NYU and will feature Columbia, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, St Johns, Stevens Tech, and Wayne State.

Men’s Fencing Finishes 4-1 at Brandeis Invitational
The Yale men’s fencing team competed in the Brandeis Invitational tournament on Sunday, and finished the day with an overall record of 4-1. Yale beat Boston College, Brandeis, Haverford and MIT, while losing only to St. Johns.

Bulldogs Turn in Strong Performance at Penn State
On Saturday and Sunday, the Yale men’s fencing team participated in the Penn State Open, in State College, Pa. The individual tournament was the Bulldogs’ first of the year, and gave them a chance to experience live competition, before the dual-meet season begins. The tournament resulted in plenty of success for the Elis, as the team had four fencers finish in the top 16 of their weapon category.

Bulldogs Have High Hopes for New Season
The Yale men’s fencing team has spent the last couple of months diligently training and preparing for the 2010-2011 season. The Elis will have an opportunity to show off that hard work when they kick off their season this weekend at the Penn State Open, in State College, Pa. Having added four new freshman to a revamped epee squad, the Bulldogs are looking to take the Ivy League by storm and compete for a shot at the Ivy League Championship.

Yale Fencing Hosts 40th Anniversary Celebration of Head Coach Henry Harutunian
Friends, alumni and the Yale fencing team celebrated the 40th anniversary of head coach Henry Harutunian on October 9, 2010 at the William K. Lanman Center inside Payne Whitney Gym. Coach Harutunian was honored for his 40 years of service and dedication to Yale fencing. The night began with a reception in the Kiphuth Trophy Room followed by dinner and an evening of celebration in the Lanman Center.
