Strong Performance at Regionals
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – After the day's competition at the Mar. 11 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, held this year at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass., the Yale men's team has qualified three fencers for the Mar. 22-25 NCAA National Championship at Ohio State University.
In foil competition, senior captain Shiv Kachru set the example for this team, placing eighth in Sunday's competition. This result, combined with his season performance, saw him become the seventh-placed qualifier in foil for Nationals.
The Bulldogs saw similar success in both sabre and epee. Sophomore Peter Cohen qualified for Nationals in seventh place for epee after the Regional competition, while junior Nate Benzimra also advanced to the NCAA National Championship after finishing fifth in sabre competition.
"Nate has had a bit of a shaky year fencing, so it is great for him to get back into top fencing form, because he is an extremely talented individual," Kachru said.
The results of Sunday's competition come with the dual-meet regular season at a close. The results of the regionals, in tandem with overall season results, determined the qualifiers for the National Championships.
