Elis Post 5-1 Record at Brandeis
String of Victories Bodes Well for Spring
WALTHAM, Mass. — Wrapping up fall competition on a high note, the Yale men's fencing team posted a 5-1 record at the Dec. 2 Brandeis Invitational here in Waltham, Mass. That result included victories against Boston College, Brandeis, Johns Hopkins, MIT and UNC.
Sunday's performance improved upon the Bulldogs' performance at this same tournament last year, when they put up a 4-1 record with victories against Boston College, Brandeis, MIT and UNC.
Yale began the competition with a 15-12 victory against Johns Hopkins, gathering momentum for the day ahead. Unfortunately, the Elis fell to St John's in a mirrored result, 12-15.
But the Elis quickly bounced back, posting strong victories against Boston College and UNC in quick succession, 20-7 and 16-11, respectively. That put them in good stead in a closely fought encounter with host team Brandeis, a match-up that the Yale team ultimately won 14-13.
The Bulldogs wrapped up their day with another solid victory, this time beating MIT 17-10.
With the close of Sunday's competition, the Bulldogs will break until spring competition begins with a Jan. 19 bout at home against Sacred Heart.
