On Monday, Apr. 26, junior foilist Nathaniel Botwinick competed at the fencing North American Cup in Virginia Beach, Va., in the foil Division I category. The North American Cups are a series of tournaments organized by the US Fencing Association. These tournaments give fencers from across the world the opportunity to fence others in similar ability/age competitions. Division I competitions are the precursors to and the qualifiers for the United States National Team, which is how the Olympic Team is chosen. Botwinick finished third in a field of almost 200 fencers, earning the Bronze medal. He lost only one bout all day, in the semifinal medal round to Andras Horanyi, who was the NCAA champion in 2007 and 2008. [+]
