Yale Fencers Drop Two on the Road

Yale Fencers Drop Two on the Road

Jan. 23, 2006

The Bulldogs lost one blowout and one nail-biter on Saturday, falling to Rutgers 20-7 and to Vassar 14-13. Yale did not win a single weapon against Rutgers, but they had a solid chance at beating the Brewers. The foil and epee squads both went 6-3, but the sabre had a disappointing 1-8 finish to doom any chance at a team victory.

The epee squad proved to be the most competitive on the day, losing by only one to Rutgers. John Beski and Michael Pearce--the freshman phenom--went 4-2.

In the sabre, Yale did not have its most impressive showing, combining for only two wins between the two matches.

Cory Werk had the best individual performance of the day. The senior from Torrance, CA went 5-1 and posted the only two Yale wins against Rutgers in the foil.

Yale returns to action this weekend against Sacred Heart at the Payne Whitney Gym.
