Yale went 1-2 on Sunday at the NYU Invitational against some of the top fencing competition in the nation. Despite a 20-7 loss to Notre Dame and a 25-2 drubbing at the hands of Ohio State, Yale turned in a solid performance against Wayne State and came away with a morale-boosting 18-9 victory.
Against OSU, Pearce and Steve Miller were the only Elis to scratch the Buckeyes defenses and prevent a sweep.
The victory over Wayne State was certainly the highlight of the afternoon. Cory Werk and Ethan Wais both tallied three wins in the foil, and Kawing Cho, Brad Broadhead, Matthew Chaiken, Steve Miller, Michael Pearce, and John Beski all contributed two wins a piece in their respective weapons.
Yale returns to action this weekend against Sacred Heart at the Payne Whitney Gym.
