NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale lost a closely contested match to Rutgers on Saturday, 15-12. The loss takes the Bulldogs' record to 3-3 on the season. The Eli epee and foil squads both had winning records, but the dominant performance of Rutgers' very strong sabre squad made the difference. Senior epeeist John Beski posted a perfect 3-0 record.
The Yale foilists also managed a winning record, as they topped their Scarlet Knight counterparts, 5-4. Freshmen John Gurrieri and Andrew Holbrook both won two of three bouts. Senior Kawing Cho pitched in one victory to give Yale the edge.
But the Rutgers sabre squad was just too strong, winning eight of the nine bouts contested. Junior Bradley Broadhead claimed the Bulldogs' sole victory.
The Bulldogs next head to New York for the NYU Invitational on Sunday, January 28th.
