Yale Turns Away Pioneers 20-7

Jan. 28, 2006

The Bulldogs won all three weapons on their way to a 20-7 victory over Sacred Heart Saturday at the Payne Whitney Gym. Matt Chaiken, Christopher Sinay, and Michael Aboodi blazed an undefeated trail through the Pioneers, finishing a combined 9-0 on the afternoon.

Yale's most lopsided victory came in the sabre where they easily repelled Sacred Heart 8-1. Chaiken and Sinay contributed six wins and Brad Broadhead and Max Blum added one each.

The Bulldogs took the foil with a similarly impressive score of 7-2. Aboodi's three wins led the way, followed by Cory Werk and Chie-yu Lin, who each posted 2-1 records.

The Elis finished out the afternoon with a close 5-4 victory in the epee. John Beski and Steve Miller had two wins apiece, but it was Dominic Albino's victory, after coming in off the bench for Gabe Billings, that proved to be the difference maker.

Yale will try to use this confidence-building victory as a springboard into the tough Ivy competition awaiting them in the coming weeks.
