NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Four different Bulldogs won all three of their bouts, as Yale topped Sacred Heart 20-7 Wednesday at Payne Whitney Gymnasium. It was the epee squad that stepped up this time, going 9-0. The win evens Yale's record at 6-6.
Yale won all three weapons. The foil squad won 5-4, and the sabre squad took six of nine to add to the Bulldog's powerful epee attack.
The same sabre squad that struggled early in the season has found more success of late. Led by freshman Nicholas Peterson's three victories, the squad fenced to a 6-3 win. Sophomore Sebastian Cano-Besquet and junior Bradley Broadhead both notched 2-1 records.
The most closely contested weapon was the foil. But when senior captain Michael Aboodi won the final bout of the round, Yale came out on top, 5-4. Aboodi won two of his three bouts. Freshman John Gurrieri also posted a 2-1 record. Fellow freshman Andrew Holbrook pitched in one win of his own.
The Elis travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for a meet with Vassar on Saturday, February 3rd.
