HARTFORD, Conn. - Freshman Michael Pearce may have been the only male fencer at the Junior Olympics representing Yale, but as usual, he came through for the Bulldogs. Pearce placed 14th in the men's epee division.
In order to advance as far as he did, he edged out Peter French, who was ranked second in points.
Pearce, who has competed at the Junior Olympics since 2001, did not have to qualify because he was ranked 16th on the points list.
Pearce has been a strong contributor to the epee squad this season. Most recently, he contributed a 3-0 record to the epee's squad victory over the Brown Bears on February 12.
