Eighth-seeded Cory Werk upset the No. 1 seed in the quarterfinals of the IFA Championships and went on to earn a silver medal in foil as the Bulldogs competed in the tournament at Brown.

Yale's men's team finished fifth in the competition behind Harvard, Penn, Princeton, and Columbia, and the men and women's team combined came in third.

In foil, Yale's team finished ninth with 10 wins. Cory Werk and Chie-yu Lin earned four and Mike Aboodi two. With his wins, Werk was placed as the eighth seed in the individual tournament, and defeated 9-seed Benji Rostoker in the first round before facing No. 1 Mike Kantor in the quarterfinals. Werk defeated Kantor 15-7, then bested Douglas Hohensee 15-10 to move into the finals, where he fell 15-12 to Ronald Berkowsky and went home with the silver medal.

The men's saber squad, consisting of Chris Petersen, Matt Chaiken, and Harry Flaster, came in fourth with 17 victories in the qualifying rounds. Petersen and Flaster each earned six wins, while Chaiken finished with five. Peterson finished ninth in the individual tournament, falling to Isaac Liberman 15-11 in the opening round.

In epee, Yale finished second to Harvard in team play with 22 wins. Captain James Rohrback picked up five of those in the A division, while Will Tauxe and Johnny Beski earned nine and eight wins, respectively. In the individual tournament, both Beski and Rohrbach advanced to the quarterfinals, where Beski fell 14-13 to Kai Keller to finish in 8th place and Rohrback dropped his bout 15-14 to Edward Sherrill for the 6th place finish.

Yale hosts NCAA regionals this weekend at Payne Whitney gym.
