Yale Eleventh After Day One at NCAA Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - After the first four rounds of fencing at the 2007 NCAA Championships, Yale sits in 11th place out of 24 total teams. Foilist John Gurrieri is looking to put an impressive stamp on his outstanding freshman campaign, as he is currently in ninth place. Fellow Bulldogs, epeeists Michael Pearce and John Beski, are also at Drew University for the competition. Pearce is currently in 15th in the epee, while Beski is in 23rd in the epee.

Gurrieri managed seven bout victories, while recording a +1 indicator. Pearce notched a +3 indicator, while winning six bouts. Beski won three bouts on the day.

Pearce finished fifth at last year's Championships.

Rounds five through seven will commence Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. The Men's Gold Medal Bouts will take place at 2:30 p.m.
