Houston, Tex. - Yale's men's and women's teams combined to finish 17th with 28 points at the NCAA Fencing Championships, hosted by Rice University. Freshman Diana Schawlowski was the Bulldogs' top finisher. She placed 16th in the women's foil. Sophomore Alisa Mendelsohn was 19th in the women's foil. In the women's saber, junior Carly Guss placed 21st. Yale's only men's competitor was sophomore Christopher Peterson, who finished 20th in the men's saber.
Notre Dame completed a two day comeback from a 24-point deficit to claim the 2005 title. The Fighting Irish finished with 173 points after passing rival Ohio State in the final bouts. This is Notre Dame's 7th national title.
