Panico, Scott Honored

PRINCETON, N.J.  – For the first time this year, two members of the Yale football team earned Ivy League honors from one contest. Senior Philippe Panico (Boston, Mass.) was special teams player of the week, while freshman Logan Scott (Woodland Hills, Calif.) earned rookie honors.

Panico, the starting placekicker, connected on a career-long, 43-yard field goal and then added a 42-yarder later in the 27-13 win over Penn Saturday at Yale Bowl. He was perfect on three PATs and boomed all of his kickoffs near the goal line.

Scott, a backup quarterback, was called on when Yale's starter went down on the game's third series. He was inserted on third down and completed a pass that came up short of the first.  Scott didn't re-enter the game until Yale's last drive of the first half. The newcomer, who got his first varsity snaps in this game, engineered an 11-play, 59-yard drive over the last two minutes, including a four-yard TD pass to Henry Furman, to put the Blue up 10-7. He finished with eight completions on 11 attempts for 64 yards.

He came in during the fourth quarter for special teams and to take more snaps at QB, but did not throw another pass.

The Bulldogs are at Columbia this Saturday for a 12:30 kick that airs live on the YES Network.
