Varga, Cazzetta on Phil Steele's Top Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Phil Steele's College Football Preview has been released and five Yale football players have been selected to its 2013 pre-season All-Ivy League squad.

Juniors TB Tyler Varga and P Kyle Cazzetta were first-team picks on offense, while senior offensive linemen Wes Gavin (photo), John Oppenheimer and Will Chism made the offense's second-team.

Cazzetta, who has earned a number of pre-season honors after improving his numbers as a sophomore, was rated the No. 16 (2nd in the Northeast) punter in the FCS by the same service. He had a 40.0 average last fall while landing 13 punts inside the 20.

Varga, on everyone's pre-season all-league first team and the FCS's top all-purpose runner in 2012, ranks 18th in the nation and fifth in the region as a running back on Phil Steele's list.

Gavin, Oppenheimer and Chism, each of whom made other pre-season teams, form the nucleus of a Yale offensive line that protects and open holes for a variety of skilled players this fall.

All five were named to the collegesportsmadness.com 2013 pre-season All-Ivy team and were joined by senior teammates WR Cameron Sandquist, TE Michael Leunen and DL Dylan Drake and sophomore DB Cole Champion.

Many of the Elis have been working out together in New Haven this summer. The entire team begins preparation for the new season on Aug. 18, the day they return to campus. Yale's season opener is Sept. 21 at Colgate.
