Yale Unveils Bowl Anniversary Logo

Plans for 100th Celebration Season Begin

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – One of the world's most famous athletic venues, Yale Bowl, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this fall, and the commemorative logo was released today.

There are two versions, one is blue and white and the other has multiple colors. One of the colors – seen through a portal in the foreground- is green and with good reason.

The plush, real grass playing surface strikes most people immediately when they walk through a portal at the Bowl for the first time… or any time after. Fans go through darkness with a light at the end of the tunnel and suddenly come upon the "garden of Eli." It's one of only two real grass fields left in Ivy League football.

The art also includes three flags sitting atop the distinctly Yale Bowl aisles, which surround a row of smaller portals. All of that is contained in the Bowl shaped logo with "YALE BOWL 100" at the top and "1914-2014" at the bottom.

The logos, designed by John Gambell and his staff at the Yale Office of the University Printer, will be available on clothing and other items this summer.

The slogan for the anniversary season is "Yale Bowl: A Century of Tradition." The season-long celebration includes special historical distinctions at each of the six home games, tributes to the Bowl in the game programs, unique band performances, the selection of all-era Yale football teams, an exclusive website and many other things.
