NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The unprecedented Yale quarterbacking debut of Griffin O'Connor brought appropriate honors. The rookie from Huntington Beach, Calif., was named STATS FCS National Freshman Player of the Week as well as Ivy League co-Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week after throwing for 436 yards and 4 touchdowns in the win over Brown last Saturday on the Class of 1954 Field.
O'Connor, taking his first collegiate snaps in his first start, led the Elis to a score on their first possession before finishing with 30 completions in 38 attempts. He did not have an interception or a sack.
His passing yards total was an Ivy League record for freshmen and the third most in school history (missed record by 2). His 452 yards of total offense were second at Yale.
The Bulldogs (5-3, 3-2 Ivy) take on No. 11 Princeton (8-0, 5-0) this Saturday at 12:30 at Yale Bowl.
