Position: Joel E. Smilow '54 Assoc. HC (OC, OL)

Clark, who will enter his sixth season as the Joel E. Smilow '54 Associate Head Coach in 2008, came to Yale in 1997 as the offensive line coach and still works with the big guys. His coaching has contributed to numerous offensive records, and he has mentored linemen who have earned 10 first-team All-Ivy honors and three All-Americans. He was the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Columbia for five seasons prior to his arrival in New Haven. He left his position as offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Wagner College to join the Lions in 1992. Clark assisted coaching the defensive secondary at the University of Maine and Rutgers University prior to that. He began his coaching career as the head coach of the Bolzano Jets (spring-summer 1986, 1987), an Italian professional team located in the Alto Adige, where he compiled a 21-6 record and reached the semifinal round of the playoffs each season. Clark, a southwestern Pa. native, played football and wrestled at Peters Township High, then went on to compete in both sports at Lafayette College. He was the starting left tackle for the Leopards for two-plus years and earneda degree in metallurgical engineering in 1985. He returned to coach the Lafayette tackles and tight ends in 1986 during the Italian league's offseason. Clark and his wife, Kristen, and their son, Kaelan, live in New Haven.
