WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Yale concluded its spring football practice with the annual Blue-White scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Clint Frank Field. Using a modified scoring system that awarded points for first downs, defensive stops and turnovers, the Blue team came out on top 41-24.

Junior tailback Matt Murray (Chappaqua, N.Y.) had the game's only touchdown, a 1-yard dive into the end zone in the second quarter. Murray had an 18-yard run earlier in the drive, the longest of the day by either team.

The game started with sophomore quarterback Matt Polhemus (N. Chatham, Mass.) hitting Dave Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio) for a seven-yard gain, which proved to be the start of a big day for the junior tight end. He equaled his reception total for the season (four) in the first two quarters Saturday.

With no contact on the quarterback allowed, freshman defensive lineman Joe Hathaway (Clifton, N.J.) nonetheless got to junior quarterback Josh Rodarmel (Mission Viejo, Calif.) for a seven-yard touch sack during White's second drive of the day. That eventually forced a field goal attempt that sailed wide right and earned Blue a point.

An interception by sophomore defensive back John Coombs (Bellevue, Wash.) earned three points for White late in the first quarter, but Blue sophomore defensive back Andrew Liyana (Hendersonville, Tenn.) responded by grabbing a tipped ball for an interception seven plays later.

Freshman defensive end Brady Hart (State College, Pa.) had another big play for Blue early in the second quarter, grabbing another tipped ball for an interception.

Sophomore defensive lineman Brandt Hollander (Indianapolis, Ind.) had a touch sack for White later in the quarter that helped stall a Blue drive. But Blue freshman defensive back Steven Santoro (Airmont, N.Y.) made a nice play to knock away a White pass on fourth down to end the next drive with two more points for Blue.

Blue freshman quarterback Ryan Fodor (Madison, Conn.) had one of his best drives on the day as the second quarter came to an end. Blue got the ball at the White 49 with 47 seconds left, and Fodor completed three passes to junior wide receiver Ashley Wright (Mobile, Ala.) for 22 yards. With a 10-yard run by junior tailback Jordan Spence (Colleyville, Tex.) mixed in, that got the ball to the 17. A 34-yard field goal by sophomore placekicker Alan Kimball (Olathe, Kan.) from there capped the first two quarters of action with the score 34-15 Blue.

In lieu of a full second half, the teams then ran through several situational drills for the 41-24 final.

Yale reports for fall practice on August 21, with the first practice scheduled for August 22.
