New Haven, CT - Yale football has finalized the list of 36 incoming student-athletes set to join the Bulldogs this fall as the Class of 2009.
There are 36 members of the class with 14 offensive players and 15 on defense. Six players are listed as both offense and defense and another is a kicker. Five are considered walk-ons (Giffen, Boisi, Yergan, Vidal and Matias).
Texas and New Jersey both send five members of the 2009 class to New Haven, while Connecticut was a close second with four players on the list.
Offensive lineman Mike Cautero could be blocking for his brother, Matt '06, a running back at Yale... Defensive back Rylan Spence will be trying to tackle his brother, Jordan '07, a running back... Casey Gerald is the son of former Ohio State football star Rod Gerald, who played both QB and WR for the Buckeyes... Joe Dennison's father, Rick, played nine seasons for the Denver Broncos and has been a coach for them since 1995.
Abare Twins Know Hardware
Twins Bobby and Larry Abare (AY-bear) come from an Acton-Boxboro High School team that won 50 straight games including four state titles.
Connecticut Player of the Year
Mike McLeod was the 2004 New Haven Register Player of the Year and a first-team all-state pick.
Coke Over Pepsi
Ryan Fodor, another first-team all-state pick from the Nutmeg State, was Connecticut's Coca-Cola Player of the Year... Landon Hairgrove (HAR-grove) and Kyle Hawari both played in the prestigious Coca-Cola North Texas All-Star Game.
Big Guys in Their States
Jay Pilkerton was named first-team all-state in Tennessee while Joe Hathaway was a North-South New Jersey All-Star Game participant and a Super 100 New Jersey pick.
