Senior QB Jeff Mroz (Greensburg, PA) was named co-Ivy Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after having a career day in the 37-17 win over Cornell at Yale Bowl last Saturday.
Mroz, the 2005 team captain who has 21 career TD passes, completed 18 passes for the second straight week. The difference was this week he connected five times for TDs and had 314 yards in a big Ivy win at home.
The five scoring passes were the most by an Eli QB since Pete Doherty did it against Columbia on Oct. 15, 1966. Eight different receivers caught his passes against Cornell and he had one picked off.
"I thought our offensive line won the game for us. Cornell is a high-pressure team, and I hardly got touched," said the Yale signal-caller. ""Ed (McCarthy), Brett (Crandall), Nick (Wachtler), Darius (Dale), Brice (Wilkinson) and Jeff (Monaco) all played extremely well. When you have blocking like that, I've just got to do my job. It's a lot easier when there's nobody in your face."
