PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Yale JV football team dropped a hard-fought 23-15 game at Brown Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs battled back from an early 13-0 deficit behind a touchdown run from freshman quarterback Peter Balsam and a touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Brook Hart to freshman tight end Caleb Smith, but could not get the equalizer.
With Yale trailing 13-0, a 40-yard run by freshman tailback John Pagliaro set up Balsam's 15- yard score that made it 13-7 at the half. A pair of pass breakups by sophomore defensive back Grant Todd and freshman defensive back Adam Money kept Brown within reach.
The Bulldogs got several big plays in the second half, including a 30-yard run from freshman fullback Shane Bannon, a diving 15-yard catch by freshman wide receiver Alex Young and a converted fake punt in which junior punter Josh Helmrich's pass drew a pass interference call. Despite those plays and a key fumble recovery by freshman defensive back Marcus Wallace, the Bulldogs fell behind 23-7. Smith's catch, followed by a two-point conversion toss to junior wide receiver Patrick Sedden, made the score 23-15.
