West Haven, CT - Quarterback Matt Polhemus threw three touchdowns passes, all to WR D.J. Shooter, as Yale cruised past Springfield 41-6 in JV football action Sunday afternoon at Clint Frank Field. TB Matt Murray started the scoring with a two-yard run at 10:39 of the first quarter, and the first Polhemus-Shooter TD came five minutes later. That was a four-yarder; their next one, with 1:54 left in the quarter, went for 27 yards.
TB Dan Sica's two-yard run in the second quarter increased Yale's lead to 28-0 before Springfield capitalized on an interception at the Yale 40 to set up its only score of the day.
TB Tyler Wells scored on a five-yard run in the third quarter before Polhemus and Shooter closed out the scoring with a 41-yard touchdown with 5:33 left in the third. Yale DL Kevin McCarthy, who had recovered another Springfield fumble earlier in the game, helped end the game by ripping the ball away from a Springfield receiver late in the fourth. That allowed the Yale offense out onto the field to take a knee for the final play.
