Sophomore Yale punter Tom Mante, in the toughest of conditions last Saturday against Brown, averaged 42.7 and put one punt inside the 20 yard line to earn Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week.
The Bulldogs came from behind to beat Brown 17-7 in wet and windy conditions on a cold day at the Bowl. Mante helped the Bulldogs move to 8-0 this fall by booting six punts, including a 60-yarder.
If his 41.8 yard season average (10th in FCS, 3rd in the Ivy) remains intact for two more weeks, it would be a Yale record. Current New Orleans Saint TE Eric Johnson owns the Bulldog record with a 41.0 clip in 1999.
Mante, a second-year starter with a long punt of 62 yards this season, has landed 13 kicks inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
