3 Seniors Named Academic All-District

Nov. 6, 2008

Three senior starters on the Yale football team were named to the 2008 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District team today and could become academic All-Americans after the next voting process.

CB Casey Gerald (Dallas, Texas), DT Kyle Hawari (Plano, Texas) and FB Shebby Swett (Bow, NH) were named to the District I University Division first team.

Gerald, a finalist for the Draddy Trophy and the ARA Sportsmanship Award, has already been named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete. He is also a Rhodes Scholar candidate who has 14 tackles this season.

Hawari, the Ivy League's sack leader with six this fall, is coming off a career-best performance last Saturday. He had eight solo tackles, forced two fumbles and registered a pair of sacks in a 27-12 Yale win over Columbia.

Swett, primarily used as a lead blocker for school-record holder Mike McLeod, has started every game this fall and has two catches, including a five-yard TD.
