Mante Gets Ivy Award On Consecutive Weeks
Nov. 11, 2008
Junior P/PK Tom Mante (Westford, Mass.) was named Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week for the second straight game after booting a pair of FGs, connecting on one PAT and landing two punts inside the 20 in the 13-3 win at Brown last Saturday.
Mante, who is 4-for-4 over the last two weeks with seven punts inside the 20, was player of the week after helping Yale beat Columbia the week before.
Yale has not had a starting P/PK combination since Mike Murawyczk in 1998. Mante, who was honorable mention All-Ivy as a sophomore last fall, is 8-for-11 on field goals and has a 41.2 punting average (3rd in Ivy) with 22 kicks inside the 20 this fall. His average of one FG made per game is third in the league.
