Yale, Harvard Bands to Pay Tribute to Kennedy

Nov. 20, 2003

The Yale and Harvard Marching Bands will be dispensing with their traditional pregame rituals at The Game on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003. This day marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The two bands will join together and present a combined tribute to President Kennedy, who holds degrees from both schools.

"This will be a day on which national interests and sensitivities will deserve unique acknowledgement. Both bands are honored to be able to provide that opportunity," said Thomas C. Duffy, Director of Yale Bands. Harvard Band Director Tom Everett stated, "it is appropriate to be able to combine the bands and bring attention to something that is bigger than ourselves."

The Harvard University Marching Band will postpone its traditional "Ten Thousand Men of Harvard," and the Yale Precision Marching Band will forego its Entrance Medley, which includes Boola Boola, Bulldog, and Here's to Good Old Yale.

Kickoff is set for 12:30 at the Yale Bowl.
