NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Thomas McCarthy has been named Ivy League Player of the Year and first team All-Ivy.  The members of the All-Ivy teams were determined by virtue of their individual finish at the Ivy League Championship this past weekend at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.  The first team is composed of the top-five finishers, while the second team is comprised of sixth place through 10th place.  The Ivy League Player of the Year award was voted on by the eight head men's golf coaches of the Ivy League.

McCarthy had a spectacular season from start to finish, winning two tournaments and tying for second in another.  McCarthy won both the Macdonald Cup and the Princeton Invitational, leading the Bulldogs to a team victory in both.  In the Macdonald Cup, McCarthy shot three straight rounds under par of 69 (-1), 66 (-4) and 69 (-1) to finish at six under par.  At the Princeton Invitational, two of his three rounds were under par.  He shot 67 (-4), 70 (-1) and 73 (+2) to finish at four under for the tournament.  McCarthy's other top five finishes were a tie for second at the Caves Valley Spring Intercollegiate, a third at the Ivy League Championships and fourth-place finish at the George Washington Invitational.  At the Ivy League Championships, McCarthy shot rounds of 76 (+6), 71 (+1) and 69 (-1) to finish at six over par.  He was just two shots back of the winner Clark Granum of Columbia.

McCarthy's selection as player of the year was a credit to not only to his two tournament victories, but also his 73.10 stroke scoring average.  His lowest round of the year was a 66 which he shot twice, once at the George Washington Invitational and once at the Macdonald Cup.
