Bulldogs Head to Philly for Big Five Tournament
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Following a second-place finish at the Macdonald Cup last weekend in New Haven, the men's golf team travels to Philadelphia this weekend for the Big Five Invitational – a tournament hosted annually by the "big five" division I schools in the Philadelphia area: LaSalle, Penn, St. Joseph's, Temple and Villanova. The Bulldogs will take the course with a highly-competitive 21-team field that includes last year's Big Five Champion Campbell (N.C.) University. The tournament will be held at Plymouth Country Club, a par-70 course founded in 1912 which has recently been lengthened to provide a greater challenge for the Elis and the rest of this weekend's field.
Sophomore Bradley Kushner is coming off a strong weekend for Yale on his home course, having finished 10th overall in the individual standings with a +3 weekend. Russell Holmes also turned in a solid performance, finishing just one stroke behind Kushner, good for a tie for 12th. Bulldog captain Tom McCarthy was the Elis' third highest finisher, taking 22nd with rounds of 74 and 73 on the weekend.
The action tees off Saturday as Yale looks to show, yet again, that they can compete with the best the East Coast has to offer.
