Yale Hosts Century Intercollegiate

Look To Continue Fine Form

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale men's golf team is in fine form as it heads to Purchase, N.Y., to host the Apr. 20-21 Century Intercollegiate at the Century Country Club.

"This is the third year we've hosted this event at Century, which is a wonderful, strategic parkland course designed in 1927," said Head Coach Colin Sheehan '97. "The course has been lengthened in recent years so the field will see a more challenging test than in years past."

In the past two weekends, the Bulldogs have tasted success: the team built on a second-place finish at the Apr. 6 Yale Spring Opener by clinching the Apr. 13-14 Princeton Invitational, making it the fourth year in the row that the Elis have won the Princeton event.

That stunning victory included strong performances by the entire team, led by senior captain Bradley Kushner and junior Sam Bernstein, who finished in third and fourth place, respectively.

When the Elis tee off at the Century Country Club, they will look to continue this strong momentum in the lead up to the Apr. 26-28 Ivy League Championship, held this year at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. Last year, the Bulldogs battled inclement weather to finish in fifth place at the Century Intercollegiate.

This weekend's field features seven teams, including Ancient Eight rivals Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth and Princeton. Each team will play six-person teams, counting four scores per round. The par-71 course measures 6,807 yards.

"As the last event before the Ivy Championship, this is the final opportunity for the team to get tournament rounds under their belt," Sheehan said.
