Lead By Two Strokes

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Saturday saw the Yale men's golf team surge up to the top of the leaderboard at the Apr. 26-28 Ivy League Championship. The Bulldogs lead by two strokes with one final round of play remaining on Sunday.

A difficult opening day saw the Elis close in a tie for third place at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. But they bounced back strongly on Saturday, finishing the day at +32, two strokes clear of Columbia and Penn, who are tied for second place.

With 18 holes left in the tournament, the Bulldogs are looking to clinch the championship after several strong recent performances: Yale claimed victory at the Apr. 13-14 Princeton Invitational and the Apr. 20-21 Century Intercollegiate.

The Elis movement up the leaderboard today was led by junior Sam Bernstein, who ended Saturday in a tie for second place at +3. He is just a stroke behind tournament leader Max Marsico from Penn.

Not far behind Bernstein is freshman Joe Willis, appearing in his first Ivy League Championship. Willis closed at +8 to sit in ninth. Two strokes further back is sophomore William Davenport, who turned into the clubhouse tied for 14th.

Golfers will tee off for the final round of the championship starting at 8:00 a.m. Sunday.
