FARMINGDALE, N.Y.-The Yale men's golf team (-9) finished third in The Doc Gimmler golf tournament, hosted by St. John's University in Farmingdale, N.Y. Rhode Island (-15) won the tournament after posting a final round 279, a shot behind Iona (+44) for the best final round of the day. Seton Hall (-10) finished one shot ahead of the Bulldogs, while UConn (-7) ended the day two shots back in fourth.
The Bulldogs had an outstanding day from freshman Eric Hall (-4), who matched his second-round 67 with another minus-3 performance. Hall had five birdies on the difficult front nine at Bethpage Red, and then finished with a strong back nine, including 8 straight pars. Hall's total of 206 was good enough to put him in the top-5 in the tournament.
Senior captain Li Wang (-1) continued his consistently strong efforts with a plus-1, 71, finishing in a tie for 11th. Freshman Jordan Weitz (+2) and senior Jonathan Lai (+1) also had solid days, again showcasing the incredible depth of the Yale men's golf team.
Next week, the Bulldogs head to Ithaca to take part in the Cornell Invitational. Like The Doc Gimmler, it is a two-day event with a wide variety of schools participating.
