NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's golf team will compete in the Princeton Invitational at Springsdale Golf Club in Princeton, N.J., this Saturday and Sunday in its penultimate contest of the regular season. After finishing tied for third in 2016, the Bulldogs look to win the event for the sixth time in the last eight seasons.
The 14-team field features seven of the eight teams in the Ivy League, with the exception of Dartmouth, as well as Georgetown, Minnesota, Rider, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Saint Joseph's and Temple. The squads will play morning and afternoon rounds on Saturday before a final round on Sunday for a total of 54 holes.
Yale's lineup for the competition at the par-71, 6,415 yard course includes seniors Jonathan Lai and captain Li Wang and sophomores James Nicholas, Jake Leffew and Eoin Leonard. Additionally, junior Will Bernstein will be competing as an individual. Wang's 4-under-par 138 earned him fourth overall at the tournament last season.
The Princeton Invitational is the first in a three-week run of events for the Elis and an important contest to help the team prepare for postseason play. Following the match, the Bulldogs will host the Yale Spring Invitational before competing at the Ivy League Championship.
