Simsbury, CT – While other members of the Yale men's golf team were away competing at the Doc Gimmler this past weekend, several underclassmen competed at The Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate at Hop Meadow Country Club. Freshman Paul Stankey placed second in the 75-player field after he carded a two round total of 143 to finish at 3-over.
The 36-hole stroke play event featured 14 teams including in-state programs Central Connecticut State and Fairfield as well as Patriot League foes Fordham and Holy Cross. After sitting in second place following an even performance in the first round, the Bulldogs tallied a 20-over performance on Sunday to finish in a tie for fifth with Monmouth. Fordham won the event, defeating Yale by 22 strokes while the Rams' James Mongey defeated Stankey by three shots to capture the individual championship.
The Bulldog's lineup for the event featured Stankey as well as freshman Perry Xin, sophomore Jordan Weitz and freshman Teddy Zinsner. Next up for the Yale men's golf team is the Cornell Invitational at Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca, New York.
