NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's golf team carded a six-over, 286 in the third and final round of the Macdonald Cup on Sunday to finish second as a team, seven strokes behind champion No. 17 Illinois. Senior captain James Nicholas picked up his second tournament victory of the season following a win at the Doc Gimmler by shooting a 15-under, 195 at The Course at Yale while senior Eoin Leonard and sophomore Teddy Zinsner each tied for 15th overall.
Nicholas is Yale's first medalist at its annual fall invitational since Tom McCarthy won the Macdonald Cup in 2009. With an eight-under, 832 over three rounds, the Bulldogs fared 15 strokes better than third-place Princeton and will have two weeks before they take on Tigers once again at the Harvard-Yale-Princeton Match on Oct. 13.
