New Haven, CT - Heavy rains cancelled the first round of the Yale Spring Opener on Saturday after only 54 out of 115 golfers had completed their rounds. All scores from the first round were erased and the 18 holes played on Sunday would serve as the entire tournament. The Yale men's golf team, which hosted the event, shot 314 on Sunday and finished in eighth place. Oklahoma Christian University won the tournament with an impressive 302.
Oklahoma Christian University also claimed the tournament's individual winner. Bruno Buccolo shot an even par 70 and won the individual title. Yale's Mark Matza led all Yale scorers with 75 and finished tied for 5th place.
Yale next returns to action on April 15 at the Trigg Golf Club in Providence, RI for the New England Championships.
