Bulldogs Finish Second At New England D-I Championship

Providence, R.I. - Due to inclement weather, the final round of the New England D-I Championship has been canceled. The Yale men's golf team finished tied for second with Central Connecticut with a score of 301 from the first round.

Sacred Heart was declared the tournament winner after leading the 17-team field after the first day's action with a 296.

The tournament was played at Triggs Memorial Golf Club.

Brown's Larry Haertel defeated Army's Pat Beverly on the first play-off hole early Sunday morning to win the individual title. This was the third time in the last four years that the individual title was decided in a playoff.

Taylor Hakes shot 73 to lead all Bulldog golfers and finished tied for fifth place.

Mark Matza and Ben Wescoe both shot 75 and tied for 11th place. Colby Moore (78, T38) and Andrew Denenberg (80, T45) also competed in Yale's top five.

Yale is back in action on April 21-22 at the Ivy League Championships. This was the second weekend in a row that the Bulldogs finished ahead of all their Ivy opponents in a tournament, a huge confidence boost entering the league finale.
