New Britain, CT - In its first competition of the year, the Yale men's golf team finished in second place at the Central Connecticut State University Invitational. The Bulldogs' 288 on Sunday was a second round low, propelled by Captain Mark Matza's two-under 70.

Matza finished in third place overall with a one-under 143.

After Matza, Colby Moore and Ben Wescoe tied for eighth, each shooting 146. Taylor Hakes (149, T16), Joe Hernandez (149, T16), Joe Potter (150, T24), and Seve Gonzales (157, T40) also competed for the Bulldogs.

"The team played very well," said Matza. "Today's round exemplifies the talent we have and will definitely boost us through the rest of the season. We played hard and it paid off."

Yale next returns to action on September 26 at the Adam's Cup in Newport, R.I.
