Yale Shoots 458 to Earn Third at Blue Devil Classic

With a team score of 458 over 27 holes Sunday, the men's golf team finished third at the Blue Devil Classic, hosted by Central Connecticut State at the Stanley Golf Course in New Britain, CT. Chris Holmes was Yale's top player, shooting a 74 on the first eighteen holes and a 37 on the last nine to earn a 4-over-par 111.
The Elis stood in fifth after 18 holes, and moved up to third by shooting the lowest of all 13 teams in the final nine holes. Yale ended up only one stroke out of second place.
Finishing behind Holmes was Steve Gray and Rick Reissman, both of whom were tied for 13 after shooting a 27-hole total of 115.
Mark Matza hit 79 in the first round and 40 on the final nine to come in tied for 30th with 119 strokes, and Joe Potter was one shot behind him with 120, good for 38th overall.
The 27-hole format was played after the first day of competition got rained out. Army won the Classic with a score of 450, while Binghamton was seven back with 457.
The Elis travel to Newport, RI next weekend for the Adams Cup.
