Bulldogs Making Moves At Macdonald Cup

New Haven, Conn. - After the first round of play at the Macdonald Cup, the Yale men's golf team is in second place out of 26 teams with 286, just one shot behind TCU. Taylor Hakes is atop the individual leaderboard after shooting a one-under 69 on the first day.

Hakes (32-37-69) had only one bogey the entire round, a five on the par 4 eleventh.

Colby Moore (33-38) and Thomas Mccarthy (34-37) are not far behind Hakes. The two Bulldog golfers both shot 71 and are tied for 5th place. Moore sank four straight birdies on the last four holes of the front nine. McCarthy, a freshman, had twelve pars on the day.

Brandon Marick (36-39-75, T33) and Ben Wescoe (39-39-78, T67) rounded out Yale's top five.

USC Upstate is in third place with 295, nine strokes back of the Elis. Yale is currently ahead of all other Ivy teams in the tournament.

Yale's second team also competed in the event. Andrew Denenberg led the way with 37-37-74 and is tied for 19th place. Joe Hernandez (35-43-78, T67), Seve Gonzales (41-44-85, T121), and Thomas Ginakakis (43-44-87, T129) made up the rest of the team.

The Macdonald cup is named after Yale Golf Course designer Charles Blair Macdonald. The course first opened in 1926.

Play concludes tomorrow with the first golfers teeing off at 7:30 a.m.
