San Diego, Calif. - The Yale men's golf team finished in 11th place out of 17 teams in a very competitive field at the Sycuan Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday. After the first two rounds, the Bulldogs were tied for 14th, but shot an impressive 301 on the second day to climb three spots.
The tournament was played on the Willow Glen Golf Course.
Thomas Mccarthy led the late Bulldog charge. The freshman shot even par on the final day to finish tied for 7th place. Over three rounds, McCarthy shot a six-over 222 (74-76-72).
No. 31 Wichita State University shot 884 to win the event, edging out no. 24 San Diego State in upset fashion. As a team, the Bulldogs scored 921.
Colby Moore (231, T45) turned in the next best score for the Elis after McCarthy. The junior had his best round on the first day when he shot 74.
Seve Gonzales (246, T96), a California native, also competed in the event as an individual.
The tournament marked the last event for the Bulldogs this fall. They are back in action starting on March 29 when they kick off the spring season at the Lacross Invitational in Westover, MD.
