New Haven, CT - The Yale Bulldogs already knew they would be hosting the NCAA East Regional golf tournament, but on Monday they found out they would also be participating in it. The Elis were one of 27 teams selected to participate in the East Regional, which will be held May 20-22 at The Course at Yale. This is the eighth time in the last nine years that Yale, which has won 21 national golf titles, has made the NCAA Regionals.
The top 10 teams and the top two individuals not on those teams advance to the NCAA Division I Men's Championship June 1-4 at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va. There are two other regionals May 20-22. The Central Regional will be played at Brick Boilermaker, Kampen Course, W. Lafayette, Ind. and the West Regional will be played at Crosswater Club, Sun River, Ore.
In addition to the Bulldogs, the East Regional also features No. 1 Florida, defending champion No. 2 Clemson, and No. 3 Georgia. Rounding out the field are Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Augusta State, Wake Forest, Duke, Tennessee, North Carolina, LSU, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, North Carolina State, UAB, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Georgia Southern, Penn State, Georgetown, Towson State, Rhode Island, Maryland, Binghamton, Army and Long Island. The East Regional has 11 of the top 30 teams in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, with four of those ranked in the top 10 and four from Nos. 11-20.
There also were six individuals selected for the East Regional - Lars Brovold, Alabama; Billy Hurley, Navy; Gareth Maybin, South Alabama; Ryan Stinnett, Virginia Tech; Robert Dinwiddie, Tennessee State; and Matt Johnson, Winthrop.
