Donald Signs With AHL Bruins
The captain who led the Yale men’s hockey team to an ECAC and Ivy League Championship - and the greatest win in the history of the program - has signed a contract with the Providence Bruins. Ryan Donald ’10 (St. Albert, Alberta), a defenseman for Bulldog teams that won more than 20 games the last two winters, agreed to a one-year deal with the American Hockey League team 86 miles Northeast of New Haven.

Yale co-Hosting 2012 NCAA East Regional
The NCAA announced today that Fairfield and Yale will host the 2012 NCAA Men’s Hockey East Regional at Bridgeport’s Arena at Harbor Yard, the third such event awarded to the two Connecticut Division I Universities. The Stags and Bulldogs co-hosted the first time with the 2009 East Regional at Harbor Yard and will host again at The Arena in 2011.

Tom Dignard Named Second Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American
Defenseman Tom Dignard ’10 (Reading, Mass.) of the Yale men’s ice hockey team was named second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America in the at-large category on Tuesday. Dignard, an economics and mathematics major, was a second team All-American and helped Yale to an ECAC Hockey championship and an Ivy League championship for the second straight season this past year.

Allain Named U.S. Junior National Head Coach
Keith Allain ’80, Yale’s Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach of Hockey and one of the most experienced and successful coaches in the United States, has been named the head coach of the 2011 U.S. National Junior Team. The appointment marks Allain's third stint as head coach of a U.S. National Junior Team, having taken on the role in 2001 and 2002.

Dignard, Falcone Earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors
Two Yale student-athletes who led their teams to Ivy League titles this year -- senior defenseman Tom Dignard (Reading, Mass.) of the ice hockey team and junior goalie Johnathan Falcone (Flemington, N.J.) of the lacrosse team -- were named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1 men’s at-large selections on Thursday. Dignard was a first-team selection and is now eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors, which will be announced next month. Falcone was a second-team selection.

Backman, Little Named All-America
Sean Backman (Cos Cob, Conn.) and Broc Little (Rindge, N.H.), the leading goal scorers on this season’s Yale men’s hockey team, have been named to the 2010 Reebok All-America second team. It is the first time that either Bulldog has been selected to an All-American squad. The announcement was made today at Ford Field in Detroit during the NCAA Frozen Four.

Ten Bulldogs Earn Winter Academic All-Ivy Honors
Ten Yale student-athletes were honored today, as the Ivy League released its list of those selected for Academic All-Ivy recognition in winter sports. Eligible student-athletes include all starters or key reserves on officially recognized varsity teams that have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

There are rewards for having a team win back-to-back conference titles and go to the NCAAs both years. The Yale men’s hockey team, which just finished its season at 21-10-3 after a loss to Boston College in the Northeast Regional Final, got two players on the All-New England Team, senior Tom Dignard and junior Broc Little.

Yale’s all-time points leader, Jeff Hamilton, has been named to ECAC Hockey’s All-Decade first-team. Hamilton, who was in the class of 2000 but finished his career in 2001, netted 80 goals and added 93 helpers for 173 points in 127 gamess.

The Bulldogs showed why they are one of the most exciting teams in college hockey this season, but seven goals were not enough to send Yale, in the highest scoring NCAA Tournament game in 50 years, to its first-ever Frozen Four. No. 2 ranked Boston College fought off a pair of Bulldog surges to hold on for 9-7 win before 6,054 at the DCU Center in the NCAA Northeast Regional final.

Yale Preparing For Ultimate Goal
The Yale men’s hockey team (20-9-3, 15-5-2 ECAC Hockey) got what it deserved after winning the conference regular season championship and being ranked among the nation’s top 10 for most of the year. The No. 9 ranked Bulldogs (20-9-3), despite falling short in the ECAC Hockey Tournament, earned the opportunity to compete for a national championship with an invitation to the NCAA Northeast Regional. Yale, the No. 3 seed, will take on fourth-ranked North Dakota (No. 2 seed, 25-12-5) at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass. The other game, at 1:30 on Saturday, pits Boston College (No. 1, 25-10-3) against Alaska-Fairbanks (No. 4, 18-11-9). Yale Stuns UND To Reach Sunday Finale
During last Sunday’s NCAA men’s college hockey selection show, the announcers noted that the Northeast Regional should come down to a finale that includes Boston College and North Dakota. They were right on one of those national powers, but they forgot about the third highly ranked squad in the field, No. 9 Yale. Ryan Rondeau, making his first start since Nov. 21, stopped 34 of 36 shots and Denny Kearney hit the net twice as the Bulldogs shocked the No. 5 Fighting Sioux before 6,572 at the DCU Center in arguably the Yale program’s greatest win.

The No. 18 Union Dutchmen came to New Haven with an 8-1-1 (4-0 conference) road mark while No. 6 Yale was 5-1-1 in the Whale. The Yale men’s hockey team, ranked No. 10 in last week’s national polls, moved up three spots in one and two the other. The Bulldogs (7-3-2 overall), winners of five of the last six games, are No. 7 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll and No. 8 in the rankings after a home conference sweep last weekend.

For the first time ever, Yale opened a season in the national rankings. Three games later and carrying a 1-1-1 mark into this weekend, the No. 11/12 Bulldogs have a lot to prove with strong conference competition from upstate New York coming to Ingalls Rink. First No. 3 Cornell (3-0-0, 2-0-0) comes to town Friday night at 7 before a hot Colgate (4-2-3, 2-0-0) squad raids New Haven the same time Saturday. The opening weekend at Ingalls can be seen live on beginning Friday at 6:40 p.m. with Ron Vaccaro '04 calling the action. Bulldogs On The Ice Today
The Yale men’s hockey team is coming off its greatest season ever: a school-record 24 wins, three conference championships and a No. 5 national ranking. There does not appear to be a lot of room for improvement, but the Bulldogs (24-8-2, 15-5-2), who won their second regular season ECAC Hockey title and the school’s first-ever tournament championship last March without having a player selected for any of the conference’s five player of the year awards, have the potential to reach similar heights in newly renovated Ingalls Rink. A 2008-09 season of “firsts” and records has continued into the start of a new campaign for the Yale men’s hockey team. The Bulldogs, defending ECAC Hockey regular-season and tournament champions and 2009 NCAA Tournament participant, have been picked to finish first in both the ECAC Hockey Coaches’ Preseason Poll and the ECAC Hockey Writers and Broadcasters Association (ECACHWBA) Preseason Poll. The latter was conducted by Schenectady Daily Gazette sportswriter Ken Schott.

The Yale University Athletic Department will team up with Stretch Internet to provide live, streaming video for home contests in five varsity sports: men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s ice hockey, and volleyball. Yale seniors Ryan Donald, Mark Arcobello, Sean Backman and Denny Kearney and junior Broc Little all took part in National Hockey League Development Camps this summer. Donald was with Vancouver, Kearney and Backman worked out with Washington while Little and Arcobello were with Chicago.
