O'Neill Earns Player of Month Award
Captain Gets ECAC Award
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Brian O'Neill, the captain of the current Yale men's hockey team, has been named ECAC Hockey/Fischer Hockey Player of the Month after scoring eight goals and netting 14 points during January.
No Division I player in the country had more goals last month than the senior forward did in nine games. O'Neill leads the Bulldogs with 13 goals and 25 points overall, having led the team in scoring the past two seasons as well.
The Yardley, Pa., native began the month with a bang by hitting the net four times in a win on New Year's Day at Ingalls Rink. He is 10th on Yale's career goals (61) chart and fifth in points (142). O'Neill currently ranks 12th in the nation and fourth in the ECAC (.62) in goals per game, he is 20th (1.19) in points in the nation this year.
This is the first conference player of the month award for a Bulldog. O'Neill is now eligible to win the Hockey Commissioners Association Player of the Month Award, a national honor earned by Kenny Agostino '15 and Broc Little '11 over the last two seasons.
The other award winners for January were Joe Wilson (Rookie, Colgate) and Troy Grosenick (Goalie, Union).
The Elis host St. Lawrence and Clarkson this Friday and Saturday at the Whale in a pair of crucial conference contests for which a limited number of tickets are still available. The puck drops at 7 on both nights.
