Over 13,000 fans came to Webster Bank Arena while a national TV audience also watched on ESPNU and ESPN2 as Yale hosted the two-day 2014 men's hockey NCAA East Regional this weekend.

The Yale men’s hockey team, in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals for the sixth straight season, faces a familiar foe in the best-of-three playoff series that opens Friday night. Bulldogs Enjoy White House
It took almost exactly 11 months to happen, but it was worth every day of the wait for the Yale men’s hockey team, the 2013 NCAA Champions. The Bulldogs, who took the Frozen Four title at Pittsburgh last April, were honored today at the White House as part of its national champions day.

Bulldogs Advance to Quarterfinals
Thirty-eight seconds in the third period was the time it took to decide the first-round ECAC playoff series at Ingalls Rink. The No. 15 Yale men’s hockey team, trailing by a goal, scored twice in that span to beat Harvard 2-1 and take the best-of-three series in straight games.

Shutouts are hard to come by in post-season play, even tougher for freshman making their playoff debut. Alex Lyon stopped all 24 shots and his No. 15 Yale hockey team got scoring from four different players in a 4-0 win over Harvard on opening night of the first round of the ECAC Playoffs.

5 Bulldogs Make All-Ivy
Five Yale players earned All-Ivy League honors today as the ECAC Hockey Playoffs begin with first-round, best-of-three series at campus arenas. Captain Jesse Root was a first-team pick, while Kenny Agostino, Gus Young and Rob O’Gara earned second-team honors. Alex Lyon, who earned Ivy League co-Rookie of the Year, was honorable mention all-league.

The Yale men’s hockey team hosts Harvard this weekend at Ingalls Rink in a best-of-three ECAC first-round playoff series. The March 7-9 games, which determines who advances to the quarterfinal round, are each 7 p.m. starts that can be seen on America One and heard live on WYBC-AM 1340. The Bulldogs (15-9-5, 10-8-4 ECAC), coming off a 5-0 win at home over Rensselaer on Saturday, finished tied for fifth in the conference standings. No. 3 Union Takes 2-0 Decision
The Bulldogs threw everything they had at Union goalie Colin Stevens, including 49 shots on goal, the most allowed this season by the No. 3 ranked Dutchmen. No. 14 Yale gave up early tallies in the first and third period and fell 2-0 to the 2013-14 Cleary Cup Champions before a sellout crowd at Ingalls Rink on the second-to-last night of the regular season.

Total Mortgage Spotlight Athlete of the Week: Kenny Agostino
The Yale men’s hockey team breathed a sigh of relief when Kenny Agostino decided to return for his final season as a Bulldog. In 2010, Agostino was drafted in the fifth round (140th overall) of the NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, and has since been traded from Pittsburgh to the Calgary Flames. Currently, he is looking to close out the regular season strong for the Yale Bulldogs as they take on Union and RPI this weekend. It’s the last weekend of the 2013-14 regular season, and the Yale men’s hockey team (14-8-5, 9-7-4 ECAC) is trying to earn a bye next week for the first round of the ECAC Tournament while grabbing credentials for the NCAA Tournament selection committee. 3-Point Weekend Ends With OT Tie at Hanover
The No. 14 Yale men’s hockey team erased a 2-0 deficit in the second period to get its third point of the weekend with a 3-3 overtime tie against Dartmouth. The result keeps the Elis, who beat Harvard on Friday, in fifth place, two points out of fourth in the race for the final conference playoff bye with one weekend left.

The best American-born college hockey players competing in New England were selected yesterday by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston as semifinalists for the 62nd annual Walter Brown Award. Yale senior forwards Jesse Root and Kenny Agostino were two of the six ECAC skaters on the list.

Muse Joins Team USA For Worlds
He earned a gold medal at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia, four months before helping the Bulldogs take their first national championship. That was quite a 2013 for Yale Assistant Coach Dan Muse, who hopes to be part of a gold repeat with Team USA at the 2014 championships in Sweden.

Day's 2 Goals Help Yale Beat Clarkson
Earning three points in a conference set against two excellent North Country teams is considered an accomplished weekend. The Yale men’s hockey team earned two of the three with a hard-fought 6-3 victory over No. 17 Clarkson at Ingalls Rink.

Bulldogs Open Home, ECAC Slate
The Yale men’s hockey team opens its 2013-14 ECAC and home schedule by hosting St. Lawrence and Clarkson this weekend at the Whale. In addition to facing the 4-2 Saints on Friday, the No. 11/11 Bulldogs unveil the 2012-13 national championship banner prior to the puck drop. The festivities and game air live on ESPN3. The No. 17 ranked Golden Knights (6-1-1) come to Ingalls on Saturday for a contest that can be seen on the Ivy League Digital Network. Both games start at 7 p.m. and can be heard live on WYBC (AM-1340).

Bulldogs Charge Back For 3-3 OT Tie
It’s hard enough playing with targets on your back from winning the national championship. It’s even tougher on the night you celebrate the title while facing a team you swept in last year’s conference playoffs. Throw in a pair of two-goal deficits and you have an impressive showing by the Bulldogs in their comeback, home opener, a 3-3 OT tie with St. Lawrence.

Total Mortgage Athlete Spotlight of the Week – Men's Hockey Player Jesse Root
Jesse Root was nothing shy of spectacular in the Bulldogs’ successful run in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Root scored game-winning goals in the West Regional against both Minnesota and North Dakota to send the Bulldogs to the Frozen Four. His next goal came just moments before he and his teammates raised the National Championship trophy after a 4-0 victory over Quinnipiac. Jesse Root, the 2013-14 captain of the Bulldogs, is this week’s Total Mortgage Athlete Spotlight of the Week.

Brown Takes Season Opener
The Bulldogs got the game’s first goal, but Brown scored the next four in a 4-1 season-opening men’s hockey decision in game one of the Liberty Invitational at the Prudential Center.

Bulldogs Beat Tigers 3-2
The first win of the 2013-14 season was a complete team effort, the perfect way to head into ECAC Hockey play. Three different Bulldogs hit the net and five others had assists as the Yale men’s hockey team beat Princeton 3-2 in the finale of the Liberty Hockey Invitational at the Prudential Center.

The Yale men’s hockey team opens its 2013-14 regular season by playing in the 2013 Liberty Invitational at Newark’s Prudential Center, home of the New Jersey Devils. The Bulldogs play Brown on Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. before facing Princeton the following night at 7. Both games can be heard live on WYBC (AM-1340).

Bulldogs Picked First By ECAC Coaches

The Yale men’s hockey team won the NCAA Championship last year, but no Bulldog anywhere in the sport had a better season than Mark Arcobello ’10, who was the American Hockey League All-Star Game MVP, tallied 68 points and scored a dozen post-season goals.

Record Numbers Produced at Murdoch Outing
The two national championship trophies sat atop a table adorned with a blue tablecloth in a white tent with a backdrop of Frozen Four and 2013 national title banners. This was the scene on the tee box of the ninth hole on the world famous Course at Yale, and all 34 golf groups posed with the trophies and Keith Allain ’80, Yale’s Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach, before playing the famous hole during the Murray Murdoch Golf Tournament honoring the Bulldogs’ first national championship.

Colin Dueck, a standout defenseman for the Yale men’s hockey team the last four years, has been signed by the ECHL Idaho Steelheads and will join the training camp in early October.

Malcolm Signs With AHL Hartford
Jeff Malcolm, the senior goalie who posted a shutout in the 2013 national championship game victory last April, is staying in Connecticut to continue his playing career. The Lethbridge, Alb., native just signed a contract with the American Hockey League’s Hartford Wolfpack.

Twenty-one members of the 2012-13 Yale men’s hockey team were honored today as ECAC All-Academic Selections. In order to earn this honor, these Bulldogs student-athletes maintained a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA.

Guerriero Named Assistant Coach
Jason Guerriero, the only Northeastern University player to lead Hockey East in scoring, has been named as an assistant coach for the Yale men’s hockey team. He comes to the Bulldogs after spending the last two seasons coaching at Holy Cross.

Yale Freshman Drafted by Blackhawks
John Hayden, a member of Yale Hockey’s Class of 2017, was drafted last night by the Chicago Blackhawks. The Stanley Cup Champions selected the Greenwich, Conn., native with the 13th pick (74th overall) in the third round of the NHL Draft held at the Prudential Center.

The first official look at the defending national champions is an Oct. 19 exhibition at Ingalls Rink.
