Yale Defenseman Joins ECHL Squad

BOISE, ID - Colin Dueck, a standout defenseman for the Yale men's hockey team the last four years, has been signed by the ECHL Idaho Steelheads and will join the training camp in early October.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound blueliner led a defense that registered a shutout in the 2013 national championship contest while bringing the first Frozen Four title to the university.

Dueck, a psychology major, played in 123 collegiate games, earned a varsity letter all four seasons and was ECAC All-Academic for three years. He was also named his team's top scholar-athlete, the Ed Wright Award.

"A quality, well-liked player coming out of a good program at Yale, said Brad Ralph, Idaho's head coach and director of operations of Dueck. " He's a big, physical kid who isn't afraid to hit people.  He should develop into a really solid pro player."

Idaho, which won 45 games last year, opens the regular season on Oct. 18 at Utah.  The team's home opener is Oct. 23 at CenturyLink Arena in Boise against the San Francisco Bulls.
