Defending Champs Get Pre-Season Test

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Official practices began on Oct. 11, eight days later the Yale men's hockey team gets its first pre-season test. The Bulldogs host the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) at Ingalls Rink.  The 7:00 puck drop airs on the Ivy League Digital Network as well as on wybcx.com.

The Bulldogs, coming off the 2012-13 NCAA Championship run, are ranked No. 6 in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Poll and seventh in the uscho.com poll. Yale was picked first in one ECAC Hockey pre-season poll and second in another.

If you want to see the new squad in action, tickets are available for Saturday's exhibition. A limited number of tickets are available for all regular season home games – including the night the national championship banner gets raised, Nov. 1 against St. Lawrence.  The only game completely sold out at this point is Feb. 14 against Quinnipiac.

UOIT, founded in just 2002, is located in Oshawa, Ontario, and competes in the Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) conference. The Ridgebacks play at Dartmouth Friday night before heading down to New Haven. This is their only weekend of competition against American collegiate hockey teams.

The Elis open the regular season on Oct. 25 against Brown in the 2013 Liberty Invitational at Newark's Prudential Center, home of the New Jersey Devils. Yale faces Princeton the following night at 7.

Standing-room-only tickets are available for the first home regular season game on Nov. 1, when the Saints come to town. The national championship banner will be hung in the belly of the Whale during a pre-game ceremony that evening.
