  • Bulldogs Try For World Championship

    Alex Lyon ’17 and Mark Arcobello ’10 hope to win a world championship together this spring. The current goalie and former Bulldog forward are on the U.S. Men’s National Team that begins play in the 79th International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on Friday.

    The Yale men's hockey team wrapped up its 2014-15 business while honoring its seven seniors at tonight's team banquet held inside Widdy's Restaurant at the Course at Yale.
  • Witek Named Hockey Captain

    Mitch Witek, a three-year letterman and regular on the blueline, has been named captain of the 2015-16 Yale men’s hockey team.
  • O'Neill Named AHL MVP
    April 19, 2015
    The American Hockey League announced that right wing Brian O'Neill ’11 of the Manchester Monarchs has been voted the winner of the Les Cunningham Award as the AHL’s most valuable player for the 2014-15 season.
  • Lyon, Arcobello Named to U.S. National Team

    USA Hockey announced today that Yale sophomore goalie Alex Lyon and Arizona Coyote forward Mark Arcobello ’10 have been named to the roster of the U.S. Men’s National Team that participates in the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship May 1-17 in Ostrava and Prague, Czech Republic.

    The impact of seeing Yale among the schools with NCAA Hockey Championship banners hanging at the Frozen Four has not worn off. Yale’s banner made its debut in Philadelphia last year following the 2013 title and is suspended from the rafters at TD Garden this weekend.

    The 2014-15 Yale hockey team continues to earn more recognition as two players earned regional honors today. Junior defenseman Rob O’Gara and sophomore goalie Alex Lyon were named first-team All-New England by the coaches.

    Let’s Play Hockey and the Herb Brooks Foundation has announced five finalists for the 2015 Mike Richter Award, which honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA men’s hockey. Yale’s Alex Lyon, coming off a 39-save performance against No. 2 Boston University in the NCAA Tournament, was listed in the elite group.

    The Verizon Wireless Arena has seen production from Bulldogs this hockey season with recent graduates and AHL Manchester Monarchs players Sean Backman '10 and Brian O'Neill '12 combining for almost 100 points. The current Yale hockey team is looking for success in that venue.

    The Bulldogs play the first game of the 2015 NCAA Tournament on Friday at 2 p.m. Yale, which has made the NCAA Tournament five times in the last seven years, has a shot at its second national title in three years. This time the Bulldogs have to come out of the Northeast Regional and a first-round matchup with the NCAA’s third overall seed, Boston University (25-7-5). The Bulldogs and Terriers square off Friday afternoon at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H., in a game airing live on ESPNU.

  • Miller Makes NHL Debut

    The third Bulldog this season skated in the National Hockey League last night. Andrew Miller ’13, who captained Yale’s 2013 national championship team, made his debut with the Edmonton Oilers during a shootout with Columbus.

    Division I’s statistical leader in net has been named the winner of ECAC Hockey’s Ken Dryden Award as its top goalie. Alex Lyon, Yale’s sophomore sensation, earned the award voted by the conference coaches and announced tonight at the ECAC semifinals.

    Yale was the only school to place two men’s players on the All-ECAC Hockey first-team. Defenseman Rob O’Gara and goalie Alex Lyon, who helped the Bulldogs lead the nation in scoring defense (1.59), earned All-ECAC honors for the first time.

    It took 96 minutes and 46 seconds to figure out who would come out alive in the decisive game of the ECAC Quarterfinal Series at Ingalls Rink. Harvard’s Jimmy Vesey hit the net with 3:14 left in the second overtime to give his squad a 3-2 win over Yale and a trip to the conference championship weekend.

    A first-round conference tournament bye doesn’t always measure up as an advantage. Tonight was a prime example of that as No. 3 seed Yale erased a two-goal deficit before falling 3-2 to No. 6 Harvard in game one of an ECAC Quarterfinal Series at Ingalls Rink.
  • Blue Hosting Crimson in Quarterfinals

    The Yale men’s hockey team, unbeaten over its last six games of the regular season and the No. 3 seed in the ECAC Tournament, typically skates at Lake Placid’s Olympic Training Center on its annual regular-season trip to the North Country. The ice was not available when Yale last went through the Adirondack Mountains, but the Bulldogs have another chance to skate on the famous 1980 Rink. That requires advancing from the quarterfinals to the ECAC Championship Weekend. Yale hosts Harvard in a best-of-three series that begins on Friday night at Ingalls Rink.   • 6 Bulldogs Earn Ivy Honors

    The Yale men’s hockey team captured the Ivy League Championship with a win in the regular-season finale and the Bulldogs were rewarded with six post-season league honors, including Ryan Hitchcock as rookie of the year and coach of the year, Keith Allain.

    The Bulldogs sent their seniors out in style. Four different players scored goals and Alex Lyon registered a shutout in net as Yale captured an Ivy League Championship and finished third in the ECAC after a 4-0 win over Cornell on Senior Night before a sold-out Ingalls Rink.

    The Bulldogs accomplished the weekend’s primary goal tonight, securing a first-round bye in the ECAC Tournament, but they were not satisfied with the result. John Baiocco and Rob O’Gara hit the net and Alex Lyon stopped 31 shots as Yale earned a 2-2 OT tie with Colgate before a packed Ingalls Rink.

    The Yale men’s hockey team is 5-1-2 over its last eight games and heading into the final weekend of the regular season with two important ECAC contests at Ingalls Rink. Don’t expect a lot of goals to be scored as the nation’s top ranked scoring defense hosts the third and seventh-ranked puck-stopping teams. The Bulldogs host Colgate on Friday and Cornell on Saturday looking to secure a first-round conference playoff bye. Both teams from New York are right behind the Blue in the standings. The Yale-Colgate game can be seen on ESPN3 while both 7 p.m. puck drops air live on the Ivy Digital Network.

    A three-point road weekend culminated by a 6-2 win at Princeton tonight has moved the Yale hockey team closer to a potential ECAC Playoff bye. The Bulldogs, alone in third place by three points with one weekend left, got a pair of goals each from Frankie DiChiara and Cody Learned and 17 saves from Alex Lyon.

    The Yale men’s hockey team, 4-1-1 over its last six games and heading into the final two weekends of the regular season, concludes the 2013-14 road schedule with two important ECAC contests. Friday night at Hamden’s High Point Solutions Arena it’s a battle of first and third-place teams as the Bulldogs take on Quinnipiac in a game airing live on SNY and TSN. Then the Elis play Ancient Eight rival Princeton on Saturday at Hobey Baker Rink. Both face-offs are set for 7 p.m.
