    The Yale men’s hockey team finished second in the 2015-16 ECAC Hockey regular season standings. The conference media placed the Bulldogs fourth for this winter.

    A large crowd packed Widdy’s Restaurant at the Course at Yale tonight to pay tribute to the Yale Hockey Class of 2016 while honoring all of the 2015-16 team accomplishments at the annual team banquet, organized by the Yale Hockey Association.
  • Hayden Named Hockey Captain

    John Hayden led the Yale men’s hockey team last season with 16 goals. He will lead the 2016-17 Bulldogs as their new captain.
  • Cooper, Witek Sign With French Team

    Two Bulldogs will bone up on their French this summer. Seniors Carson Cooper and Mitch Witek have signed a one-year deal with Club des sports sur Glace, a hockey team in Strasbourg-Alsace that plays in the French First League.
  • Winter Academic All-Ivy Announced

    The Ivy League has released its list of student-athletes selected for 2015-16 Academic All-Ivy honors in its winter sports, and 10 Yale student-athletes were honored. The 80 overall men and women were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages. Each institution nominated five men and five women from its eligible student-athletes.

    Stu Wilson is now playing for his hometown professional hockey team. The Yale senior from Northern New York played his first game last night for the AHL Rochester Americans.

    Alex Lyon, Yale’s All-American goalie, has signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers and will forgo his final year of collegiate eligibility.
  • Lyon, O’Gara All-Americans Again

    The American Hockey Coaches Association and CCM came out with their East and West Division I All-America teams today, and there were no surprises relating to the Yale men’s hockey team. Both Alex Lyon and Rob O’Gara earned national distinction for a second straight season.

    The 2016 New England Hockey Writers have honored three Yale Hockey players. Senior defenseman Rob O’Gara and junior Alex Lyon earned first-team All-New England status, while senior Carson Cooper won the Frank Jones Award as the “most defensive forward.”

    Joe Gambardella’s goal 97 seconds into overtime ended the Yale hockey team’s hope for a national championship in a game featuring the nation’s top two defenses. His shot from the edge of the left circle gave UMass-Lowell a 3-2 win over the Bulldogs in game two of the 2016 NCAA East Regional at the Times Union Center.
  • Elis Prep For UML on Saturday Night

    One of the last Yale skates to touch the Times Union Center ice in a game was worn by Ryan Donald ’10, who helped the 2008-09 Bulldogs win the ECAC Tournament Championship. He is back as a first-year assistant coach today as the Bulldogs prepare for Saturday night’s NCAA East Regional game against UMass-Lowell.
  • Quest for National Title Begins Saturday

    For the sixth time in eight years the Bulldogs are dancing on the ice. The Yale men’s hockey team (19-8-4, 14-5-3 ECAC) received its invite today to the 2016 NCAA East Regional and will face UMass-Lowell (24-9-5). The No. 3 seed Bulldogs, who get a rematch of the 2013 Frozen Four Semifinal, take on the second-seeded River Hawks on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. The contest airs live on ESPN3 (Kevin Brown and Billy Jaffe).

    Alex Lyon has been the backbone of Yale Hockey team that has been ranked among the top 10 teams in the country for most of this season. For the second straight season, he has posted numbers that are the best in the history of the position at the school. Today, the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Committee announced that the Yale junior is a top 10 finalist for the 2016 prize honoring college hockey’s top player.

    Let’s Play Hockey and the Herb Brooks Foundation announced today the five finalists for the 2016 Mike Richter Award, which honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA men’s hockey. Yale junior Alex Lyon is one of those finalists for the second straight year. The third annual award will be presented by Mike Richter at the 2016 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four in Tampa, Fla.

    A hot goalie often is the difference come playoff time, especially for an underdog. The Yale hockey team ran into a very hot one in Charles Grant, who prevented the Bulldogs from advancing to the conference semifinals by stopping 46 of 47 shots in Dartmouth’s 2-1 win in game two of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals.

    The Yale men’s hockey team (19-6-4, 14-5-3 ECAC), the No. 2 seed in the ECAC Hockey Tournament, hosts No. 7 Dartmouth (16-15-1, 11-11-0) in a best-of-three quarterfinal series that begins on Friday at the Whale. The first two are set for 7 p.m.; if a third is needed, puck drop will be Sunday at 5 p.m. All games air live on the conference tournament streaming network, Boxcast.

    The nation’s longest winning streak has ended at eight games on the last day of the regular season. That special run got the No. 7 Bulldogs a No. 2 seed in the ECAC Hockey Tournament and a piece of the Ivy League Championship. The streak ran out of steam against the No. 1 team in the country, as Quinnipiac took a 4-1 game before a packed High Point Solutions Arena.
  • Yale Grabs Ivy Title With 6-0 Win

    The team with the nation’s top defense had a big scoring night that won it an Ivy League Championship and secured second place in ECAC Hockey. No. 7 Yale ran the nation’s longest active win streak to eight games with a 6-0 thrashing of Princeton in front of a near full house at Hobey Baker Rink.

The No. 7 Bulldogs play at Princeton’s Hobey Baker Rink Friday night (ILDN) before taking on No. 1 Quinnipiac at High Point Solutions Arena on Saturday in a game that airs live on SNY TV.

    The nation’s longest win streak increased to seven games because No. 8 Yale, for a second straight night, scored late in the third period to win a come-from-behind ECAC Hockey contest. Senior Stu Wilson put the finishing touches on senior night by finding the net with 2:29 left for the winner to help the Bulldogs take a 3-1 decision over No. 20 Clarkson before a packed Ingalls Rink.
